“Consumer
Health Freedom and Access Act”
Wisconsin Health Freedom Coalition is seeking an exemption,
or safe harbor, from licensed health care practice acts,
for the many natural healing arts that are practiced in our
state and pose no risk of harm to the public. We assert that
the freedom to access the healing services and nutritional
information is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
Dedicated to legislative
reform to ensure Wisconsin residents receive:
- Continued access to natural health
services through our many licensed and unlicensed
healing arts professionals, legally and safely.
- Promote perpetual access, without
the need of a doctor’s prescription, to food supplements
in potencies above the RDA, herbs, herbal products,
essential oils and all natural health care products.
-
Promote freedom to teach basic concepts that promote
wellness, exercise and whole food nutrition, without
fear of being charged with violating the Wisconsin
Health Professions Codes, as well as freedom to receive
an education in all
complementary and natural health care modalities.
-
WIHFC membership
includes grass roots support, licensed and unlicensed
practitioners who advocate legislative reform to protect the
complementary healing arts in Wisconsin.

WIHFC is a Wisconsin
nonprofit 501(c) 4 lobbying organization for social justice
supporting an exciting new
Consumer Health Freedom and
Access Act in Wisconsin in the 2009 to
2010 legislative session. |
“Consumer
Health Freedom and Access Act” will ensure consumer choice by
providing a “safe harbor exemption” for those
doing non-licensed healing therapies as long as they
follow guidelines of the bill. It also gives the
consumer freedom to choose alternative practitioners
and services desired. This is an exemption bill for
everyone doing no harm. Without legal protection,
Native American tribal healers,
herbalists,
health care
services that do no harm,
teachers, the parent, the friend sharing
information, instructors, speakers, practitioners
and
Grandmas providing
non-toxic
herbs and oils
from their kitchens
will be fined
and prosecuted by the Wisconsin Department of
Professional Licensing. Average cost in fines and legal
fees: $18,000. |

Our Health Freedom is
threatened!
Most of us like to
think we have the freedom to choose our health care
practitioners. We take for granted that we can explore new
ways to heal our bodies and minds. In fact, thousands of Wisconsin citizens visit both traditional and complementary health
practitioners each year. How would you feel if you could no
longer use the services of naturopaths, chiropractors,
homeopaths, energy workers, craniosacral therapists,
holistic physicians and other complementary healers because
they are no longer able to practice in Wisconsin?

Practitioners in
Wisconsin are being investigated and
prosecuted by the Department of Regulation and Licensing. Because
Wisconsin state laws that govern medical practice are so
broad in scope, they restrict almost all complementary
health care practices. Unlicensed complementary health
practitioners are vulnerable to charges of practicing
medicine without a license. Licensed health care
practitioners such as physicians and nurses are at risk of
losing their licenses when using holistic therapies deemed
outside the standard prevailing practices of traditional
medicine. In fact, there has been a concerted effort by the
state Reg & Licensing to shut down the practices of mercury free
dentists, chiropractors and other practitioners using energy
healing, and physicians using chelation therapy. Reg &
Licensing is
spending Wisconsin tax dollars to hire Quackbuster representatives to
prosecute practitioners
and to eliminate these healing
practices in our state...read

What is the net effect?
The freedom of
Wisconsin citizens to choose their health practitioners is
being limited and will likely be more severely limited in
the future.
