*Business Closures and Jobs Lost: Lynn Edwards, coordinator of the Wisconsin Dietetic Association in April 10, 2010 Eau Claire Leader Telegram article: click here

"If the bill passes, (Karen) Hurd would have to become a registered dietitian to be able to continue to provide dietetic therapy, Edwards said. That would require her to receive a degree from a college approved by the Dietetics and Nutrition Care Services Affiliated Credentialing Board, complete at least 900 supervised hours of dietetics practice and pass the American Dietetic Association's exam." Successful businesses would close and employees will loose their jobs if alternative nutrition providers have to comply to these education requirements.

This legislation will resurface in the January 2011 - 2012 legislative session.

Augusta Times Article May 6: "Lynn Edwards of the Wisconsin Dietetics Association which supported this bill, Edwards said the bill, designed to protect consumers, had evolved into something less controversial  by the end of the session, and she expected greater support for the bill from more originations in the future. "I truly believe if we could have gotten it to the floor it would have passed."

Outside influence

Number of lobbyist-written state bills grows: 'Allowing lobbyists to write bills was once "taboo" in this state, but now "it's been noticeable on a wide range of issues," McCabe said.' AB440 and SB115 were written by special interest groups without input from the largest citizen opposition group, the Wisconsin Health Freedom Coalition.

Dietary Licensing Bills so Registered Dietitians can Receive Medicare Payments and put all others out of business? This makes no sense...

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -- Margaret Mead

Limits consumer choice * Limits free speech * Food discussion must remain in the public domain and not restricted by licensure * No need for licensing, current status is OK for Registered Dietitians

History: The Wisconsin Health Freedom Coalition (WIHFC) has tried to work in good faith with the Wisconsin Dietetic Association (-WDA- is the state affiliate of the American Dietetic Association-ADA ) for a compromise to allow all non WDA practitioners of nutrition services an exemption from their dietary licensing bill, AB440. These attempts for a compromise have been ignored and refused.

The WDA claims they are the only source for nutrition care services and is science based. WDA/ADA sponsors junk food and pharmaceutical companies:
